As well as delightfully trivializing anyone shaking their fists at anything potentially more threatening than APTN movies, this ad poses another problem. When revolution means "catching blockbuster movies every Thursday", the whole concept of revolution is confined within consumer culture. Television stations have their own "revolutions", clothing stores can have "revolutionary low prices", and we can protest a fast food chain for discontinuing our favourite sandwich. Ads like this make it impossible, or at least improbable, to think any more broadly than this. Ads like this tell us that yes, we are empowered, yes, we can raise our fists and demand for what we deserve. While some might think our society deserves for its primary medium of entertainment to not be completely written by advertising and corporate profits, we actually just deserve (and have the right to!) blockbuster movies. And more of them.
